New England - Canada Cruise 2008

New England - Canada Cruise
Holland America
July 2008

Russell, Janis, and Ginger

We flew into Boston and spent a couple of days there sightseeing before boarding Holland America Maasdam for the New England-Canada cruise. This was the first time the three of us had gone alone on a cruise.

In Boston, we took the hop-on-hop-off bus for a tour of the historical sights. We visited the USS Constitution, Old Ironsides, and even walked up the steep gangplank to climb aboard. A visit to Paul Revere's house along the Freedom Trail was next. Historic Faneuil Hall was a great place to eat some fish and clam chowder. Yumm! We even took the T out to the JFK Presidential Library. What a historical city! It would be a great place to visit again when we had more time.

The ports we visited on the cruise were Charlottetown,Prince Edward Island; Quebec City, Montreal; Sydney, Bar Harbor, Maine; Halifax, Canada.

Prince Edward Island is where you can find the farm where the book, Anne of Green Gables is based upon.

Quebec City was my favorite with its tiny streets for shopping and the beautiful castle on the top of the hill.

This was a seven day cruise.

Hawaii 2007

We took the NCL Pride of Hawaii for a cruise around the islands of Hawaii. We went with friends, Sue and Raymond. Because this was our first big cruise we didn't have a clue of how to book the excursions, when to do it and what all we should try to see. We wanted to see it all and as a result we had a very BUSY week.

Hawaii is beautiful!

We booked a Royal Caribbean cruise tour. My mother and sister joined us for this trip. We had the same bus driver and tour guide until they left us at the port to board the ship, Radiance of the Sea.

13 Night Alaska Land and Sea - 2010

This is our second time for this trip. More to come........

Panama Canal Cruise

In November we took a Panama Canal Cruise on Celebrity along with my mom, sister, and 2 other couples from west Tennessee. We were the only Georgians in the group. The cruise left from San Diego, California on November 20 and docked in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on December 5.  This was the first time we had cruised over a holiday. We weren't sure how Thanksgiving would be on a ship. I must say everyone turned out for the dining room. The food was not your typical Southern Thanksgiving fare.

It was interested to see the Panama Canal and also we took an excursion to the new canal which is scheduled to open later in 2016. It's a much wider canal and will be able to handle the larger cruise and military ships.

I'm glad we saw the Canal but don't think I'd want to do this cruise again. The ports of call were just ok and far from major cities.
